Published author Trevor Conway (MA in Writing, first book published by Salmon Poetry) is facilitating 8-week online courses for poets and fiction writers. Previous writing experience is not essential, but being able to take advice and work hard on your writing are vital.
Participants can expect to learn how to identify elements of their work that need to be strengthened. They will understand how the various elements knit together to create a coherent piece of work. They will receive concrete tips and feedback to improve their work, leading to a more rewarding writing process and helping them get their work published.
The courses run from Monday 18th September to 13th November.
Poetry: 8 weeks, 100 euro
Each week includes the following:
Fiction: 8 weeks, 150 euro
Each week includes the following:
Poetry elements covered: notes & preparation for a poem; development of the theme; interesting/electric language; structure & form; poetic techniques; revision; lazy verbs & clichés; getting published.
Fiction elements covered: setting/situation; plotting; narrative style; characters; dialogue; genres; surprising the reader; getting published.
Trevor is also available for advice on publication, dealing with editors and publishers, pitching your manuscript, writing your cover letter and other related matters.
The courses are carried out through one-on-one email correspondence. All you need is internet access.

About Trevor: Trevor Conway writes poetry, fiction and songs. His poetry and fiction have appeared in magazines and anthologies across Ireland, Austria, India, the UK, the US and Mexico, where his poems have been translated into Spanish.
He has an MA in Writing from NUI Galway. He has been interviewed for RTE Radio 1’s Arena arts show, as well as local radio stations Ocean FM and Galway Bay FM. He has also read work/been interviewed at Over the Edge, O Bheal and the Belfast Book Festival.

- Trevor will edit one poem per week from each participant
- Assignment/Prompt for a new poem (optional)
Fiction: 8 weeks, 150 euro
Each week includes the following:
- A short discussion on a specific topic/aspect of fiction (with a story or extract to give examples)
- Tips related to this topic
- A short exercise related to this topic
- Trevor will critique one story or chapter (under 4,000 words) per week from each participant
- Assignment/Prompt for a new story (optional)
